The cycling... read more routes were spectacular- incredible scenery with virtually no traffic! We joked that we weren’t sure whether we were on a cycling tour or a food tour! This was my second cycling trip to Taiwan, and it was even better than the first. We cycled from south to north, taking in the amazing Taroko Gorge climb. This... read more is an epic climb, which the pro cyclists race up each year, but with Pedal Taiwan's help our group of retired amateurs managed to get to the top. The food, sightseeing, accommodation and support were all brilliant and once again I was blown away by the quality of the cycling - beautiful scenery, perfect roads, polite drivers and friendly locals. A big thanks to Rob, James and Frank for making the trip so special.

Thanks go out to Rob and the team at Pedal Taiwan for a fantastic 2 weeks in Taiwan, exploring the best cycling, food and natural attractions.
Accommodation ranged from 4... read more star in cities, to hostels and BnB in the regions, but was all of a high standard.
We generally searched out street food and restaurants where locals eat. Again, all fantastic.
Unlike many Asian countries, there was no worries about food poisoning, the water, or crime.
I felt safe at all times, even when walking alone on the last night in Taipei... try that in Barcelona!
The Taiwanese people are lovely and helpful. Many were curious about what we were doing, and blown away by the distances etc.
Drivers, generally were patient and gave us cyclists a wide berth. A polite toot in the mountains let us know they were passing.
Bike lanes on most roads except in the mountains , shared with scooters.
NO smashed glass!
Roads in Taiwan are a really high standard and
invariably hot mix. Again a contrast to here!
Finally, thanks to Brad, our guide, whose local knowledge, humour ( and Mandarin! ) got us through it all!

I did the 4 day KOM tour, and James and Annie were excellent guides. The rides and climbs were challenging for enough for a fit and experienced cyclist, especially days... read more 2 and 3 which include both sides of Wuling Pass, but also quite doable for others.
The hotels and food were also very good. Our guides took us to great local places for food that we would never have visited on our own.

Cycling with Pedal Taiwan over the last 2 weeks was an unforgettable cycling experience. The event included cycling along the east side of the island, the southern most point being... read more Eulanbi, up to Keelung and then finishing in Taipai. Somewhere in this journey we managed to include the KOM challenge, a ride from sea level, through the Taroko Gorge and ending up some 110km later at the 3275m summit.
The views en route were stunning,Pedal Taiwan incorporated places of interest to stop at and explore, hot springs, street markets... The roads were smooth and cycle friendly. The food stops and restaurants in the evenings gave us the chance to enjoy some superb Taiwanese food. The Taiwanese people so welcoming and friendly.
But an amazing plus was the fact that my non cycling husband was able to join in and cycle with the peloton, courtesy of an electric bike organised by Pedal Taiwan.
He thoroughly enjoyed this cycling adventure, so if an experience can transform a virtual novice to someone who has now booked and will join me on another cycling adventure then clearly Pedal Taiwan must have done a superb job. Many thanks to Rob who organised the event and the guides/ backup (Frank and James) for a great holiday.

The... read more roads in Taiwan are of a high standard and we were shown the best rides to sample the tarmac - with stunning views.
Great accommodation with some real surprises throughout the regional areas - again local knowledge uncovers gems.

We had a great time. The cycling was fun and the brochure descriptions give a clear indication of what to expect. For a part time cyclist like me the trip... read more was challenging but achievable even if i was a little slow up the 87k climb! My wife had a great time on a hired electric bike which made hill climbing very easy. We enjoyed the mix of cycling and stopping off to see the sights - hot springs, tea plantations, night markets, great food, temples, friendly people. The accommodation worked really well even in remote locations and the support team were helpful throughout.

2 week trip involving exploration of Taipei a bullet train ride and then more fabulous cycling along the southern and eastern coast before mountain climbs and descents. Thanks to James... read more and Frank our bike support team and Rob for organising everything so efficiently . The food was amazing and the guiding team enabled us to explore all sorts of fabulous local restaurants the street food was unusual and really added to the experience. The Taroko gorge was an epic challenge but with a mixed ability group Rob and his team still managed to provide support to the front and the back of the peleton and I think all the party ended the day exhausted but satisfied with the achievement. Would recommend the trip to anyone with a sense of adventure keen to explore Taiwan
